Dragon head with garnet,
        carved applewood pendant

Designed and carved by Dominic Koval
at the Well of Stars, Lake Elmore, Vermont

The deep red garnet, which was traditionally carried by travelers to protect them from accidents, is said to light up the night, preventing nightmares and inspiring love. According to legend, Noah used a garnet lantern to help him steer the Ark after dark. Garnet, which is also found in other colors, is the birthstone for January.
