Two leopards with hematite
        in carved applewood pendant

Designed and carved by Dominic Koval
at the Well of Stars, Lake Elmore, Vermont

Hematite, a form of  iron oxide that looks blood-red when powdered because of the scattering of red light by its particles, was said to mark the site of ancient battles. The silver-gray mineral has  been found on the red planet Mars, where it may be one of the keys to the mystery of vanished waters. It has been prized by lawyers as an aid to success in court, and is said to relieve high blood pressure, depression and inflammation.
