Woman with carnelian, carved applewood pendant

           at the Well of Stars, Lake Elmore, Vermont

Carnelian, which is believed to dispel negative energy and ward off nightmares, favors strong creativity and clear thinking. A traveler's stone, it is said to have been worn by Mohammed and Napoleon.  It is an alternate birthstone for July.
