Golden swallow with peridot
        in carved applewood pendant

Peridot, which is created in the fire of volcanic explosions and can sometimes be found in meteors, symbolizes clairvoyance and is said to aid in the fulfillment of dreams. Ancient Romans called them "evening emeralds" because their color does not darken in lamplight, and in Hawaiian legend they are the tears of the goddess Pele. Peridot is the birthstone for August, the anniversary stone for the 16th year of marriage, and the state gemstone of Nevada.
